What We Believe

The Church of Christ at Alexandria . . .

Believes the Bible is the inspired and inerrant word of God.  It is absolute in its authority and it contains all the truth needed for salvation and for living in Christ.   Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12

Believes that God exists eternally in three persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.   Matthew 3:16–17; John 14:9–10

Believes that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.  We believe that the virgin-born Son of God died for our sins, was buried, arose from the dead and is coming again.   Matthew 1:18; John 3:16;  John 14:1-3; John 20:24–31;

Endeavors to preach the good news of Christ to our own community and throughout the world, with the goal of winning all mankind to Christ as Savior and Lord.  Matthew 28:18-20

Challenges our members, through the indwelling power of the Spirit, to develop a Christ-like lifestyle and to become His voice and hands in the world through service.  1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 12:7

Continues the New Testament practices of baptism by immersion and the weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper.   Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1–7; Acts 20:7

Believes the Bible teaches that the Elders are to exercise authority over the local congregation.  Acts 20:28; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9;
1 Peter 5:1-4
 
Believes in marriage as God intended between one man and one woman.  Matthew 19:4-6; Romans 1:21-27
 
Believes life begins at conception.   Psalm 139:13-16; Luke 1:15; Galatians 1:15
